On the northern outskirts of Houston, Aldine is on Farm Road 525, the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and the Hardy Toll Road. Built on the International-Great Northern Railroad, it’s named after a local farm family. Mail was delivered from Houston until 1935, when the community lost its post office. Aldine had two general stores, a fig preserver, and several poultry breeders and dairymen by 1914. Between thirty and forty people lived there in the 1930s and 1940s, when the population briefly reached 100. 1965 was the year the Aldine schools integrated. In the late 1970s, the community started growing again. In 1986, it had 12,623 people, and in 1990, it had 11,133. The population grew to 13,979 in 2000.
